Tomislav Ratković

Tomislav Ratković was born on April 9, 1981 in Varaždin, where he graduated from music high school in the class of teacher Darko Navoj. He graduated from the Academy of Music in Zagreb – studied trumpet in the class of professor Stanko Selak. During his studies, he regularly participated in the concerts of the Academy of Music with the academy symphony orchestra (performances in C. Orff – Carmina Burana, A. Honeger – Ivana Orleanska, L. von Beethoven – 9th symphony) At the same academy, he completed his master’s degree in trumpet in 2008 in the class of professor Marin Zokić. He attended seminars in Grožnjan and Novi Mesto with professor S. Arnold and James Thompson, in Varaždin, at the baroque music seminars “Aestas musica”, seminar of professor Reinhold Friedrich, seminars by Guido Segers – trumpeter of the Munich Philharmonic, Kiril Soldatov and many other famous soloists and pedagogues. At the first competition of young trumpeters in Croatia, he won the 1st prize in the 3rd category. At the international Woodwind & Brass competition in Varaždin in 2017, in the Grand Prix II category (from 29 to 36 years old), he won first prize with 99 points and third place in the final of the competition. On the occasion of the celebration of the 170th anniversary of the Varaždin school of Music, he played with accompaniment of the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra. From 2003 to 2016, he was a trumpet teacher at the Požega Music School, where, in addition to teaching trumpet, he also led the school brass orchestra and Brass Quintet for a time. From 2016 to 2020, he was a trumpet teacher at the Fortunat Pintarić Art School in Koprivnica and since 2020 he has been a trumpet teacher at the Varaždin School of Music.

He has lectured at numerous trumpet seminars organized by the Association of Amateur Wind Orchestras of Slavonia and Baranja (Požega, Nova Gradiška, Našice, Slavonski Brod and Đakovo).

He also participated in the work of the Summer Music Camp in Maruševec, holding artistic trumpet lessons. In addition to solo recitals and concerts, of which the performances at the Varaždin Baroque Evenings and the Heferer cycle are particularly noteworthy, he regularly collaborates with the Varaždin Chamber Orchestra and the Cantus ensemble. He has also performed several concerts with Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra.

Since 2021, he has been a member of the Cultural Council of the City of Varaždin.
